Server Migration

Server and data migration services in Singapore by CARE

Server migration in Singapore, moved without losing a thing

Moving to a new server or platform is one of the riskiest jobs in IT. Done well, your business carries on as normal and barely notices. Done badly, you are looking at lost data, corrupted files, broken email, locked-out users and days of downtime. The difference is entirely in the planning and the experience of whoever does it. CARE has been migrating servers and systems for Singapore businesses since 2007, including the genuinely difficult migrations that go wrong in the wrong hands, so your move is careful, controlled and complete.

Over those years we have handled just about every kind of migration there is, from a single old server to a full data centre, from on-premise email to the cloud, from one platform to another. Whatever you are moving and wherever it is going, we plan it properly, move everything cleanly, and make sure it all works before you rely on it.

The migrations we handle

Migration is not one job, it is many, and the hard ones need real experience. After two decades, there are very few we have not done. Our work covers:

Server and hardware migration

  • Old server to new hardware, moving everything from ageing or failing servers onto new equipment, cleanly and completely.
  • Server consolidation, combining multiple servers onto fewer, better-used machines to cut cost and complexity.
  • Data centre migration and relocation, moving or consolidating a whole server room or data centre, planned to the last detail.

Virtualisation migration

  • Physical to virtual (P2V), converting physical servers into virtual machines for efficiency and flexibility.
  • Virtual to physical (V2P), moving a workload back onto dedicated hardware where it needs it.
  • Virtual to virtual (V2V), moving virtual machines between platforms, including Hyper-V to VMware (ESXi) and VMware to Hyper-V, in either direction.
  • Platform switching, changing virtualisation platform entirely, with your workloads brought across intact.
  • Operating system migration, cross-platform moves including Windows to Linux and Linux to Windows where it suits the workload.

Email and Microsoft 365 migration

  • Microsoft Exchange migration, between Exchange versions, to a new server, or to Microsoft 365, with mailboxes, calendars and contacts intact.
  • Tenant-to-tenant (T2T) migration, moving Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams from one Microsoft 365 tenant to another, the kind of move that comes with mergers, acquisitions and rebrands.
  • Legacy and other platforms to Microsoft 365, migrating from IBM Notes, Google Workspace, Box, Dropbox and file shares into Microsoft 365.

Data, database and storage migration

  • Database migration, SQL Server upgrades, moving databases to new servers, or to managed cloud databases such as Azure SQL, with integrity preserved.
  • Storage migration, SAN and NAS migrations and storage refreshes, moving your data onto new storage without disruption.
  • SharePoint migration, version upgrades and moves from on-premise SharePoint to SharePoint Online, with metadata and permissions kept.
  • File server migration, moving file servers and shared data with all permissions and access rights preserved.

Infrastructure and cloud migration

  • Active Directory migration, migrating and upgrading Active Directory and domain controllers, including transferring FSMO roles correctly so logins and access keep working.
  • Domain and DNS migration, moving domains and DNS and handling the cutover cleanly so nothing goes dark.
  • On-premise to cloud, migrating servers and workloads to Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, planned around cost and minimal disruption.

How we keep a migration safe

The reason migrations go wrong is almost always rushing or skipping the careful steps. We do not. Our process is built to protect your data and your uptime at every stage:

  • Plan and assess. We map exactly what is being moved, work out the dependencies and the right order, and build a migration plan around your business and your timing.
  • Back up first. Everything is fully backed up before anything moves, so there is always a way back if it is ever needed.
  • Test the migration. Where possible we trial the move first and check the results, so problems are caught and fixed before the real migration, not during it.
  • Migrate with minimal downtime. The actual move is done carefully and, where we can, outside business hours, to keep disruption to your team as small as possible.
  • Verify everything works. We thoroughly check that all data, email, applications and access have come across correctly before you rely on the new environment.
  • Tidy up. Once you are confirmed up and running, we handle the old systems properly, including secure wiping of data when equipment is decommissioned.

The hard migrations are where experience counts

Anyone can copy files from one machine to another. The migrations that go wrong are the ones with moving parts: a live Exchange server full of mailboxes, an Active Directory with FSMO roles that have to transfer in the right order, a tenant-to-tenant move during a merger, a database that cannot afford downtime, dependencies nobody documented. These are exactly the situations we are called in for, including fixing migrations that another provider started and could not finish. Since 2007 we have seen where these jobs break, which is why ours do not.

Why CARE for migration

  • We have done it all. Two decades of server, virtualisation, email, database, storage, SharePoint, Active Directory and cloud migrations, so whatever you are moving, it is familiar ground.
  • Your data protected throughout. Full backups before we start and careful verification at the end, so nothing is lost in the move.
  • Minimal downtime. Planned and where possible done out of hours, so your business keeps running.
  • The whole journey, in-house. On-premise, virtual and cloud migrations handled by our own engineers, tied into our server support, security and backup so the new setup is solid.

Frequently asked questions

Will we lose any data during the migration?
No, that is the whole point of doing it properly. We fully back up everything before we start, migrate carefully, and verify all your data has come across correctly before you rely on the new environment, so nothing is lost.

Can you convert our physical servers to virtual, or between Hyper-V and VMware?
Yes. We handle physical-to-virtual (P2V), virtual-to-physical (V2P) and virtual-to-virtual (V2V) migrations, including Hyper-V to VMware (ESXi) and VMware to Hyper-V in either direction, with your workloads brought across intact.

Can you migrate our Microsoft Exchange or move us between Microsoft 365 tenants?
Yes. We handle Exchange migrations to new servers or to Microsoft 365, and tenant-to-tenant moves of Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, the kind of migration that comes with mergers, acquisitions and rebrands.

Can you migrate Active Directory and transfer FSMO roles?
Yes. We migrate and upgrade Active Directory and domain controllers, including transferring FSMO roles correctly and in the right order, so user logins, access and security keep working through the move.

Can you migrate our databases and storage?
Yes. We handle SQL Server and database migrations, including to managed cloud databases, along with SAN and NAS storage migrations and SharePoint moves, with data integrity and permissions preserved.

Can you move our servers to the cloud?
Yes. We migrate on-premise servers and workloads to the cloud, including Azure, AWS and Google Cloud, planned around your costs and with minimal disruption.

Can you take over a migration that has gone wrong?
Yes. We are often called in to rescue or complete migrations that another provider started and could not finish. We assess where things stand and get you safely to the finish.
